This grassroots children’s museum is a place for children to explore, learn and use their natural creativity through play. They work to develop young children’s levels of physical fitness, health and creativity through hands-on learning exhibits that stimulate intellectual growth and curiosity. The interactive exhibits have Outer Banks themes, and exhibits include a Carolina fishing boat, the Outer Banks Teddy Bear Hospital, the Hatteras Lighthouse, a stage for dramatic play, the Outer Banks Grocery Store and the Living Swell Exhibit, which promotes balance and exercise. They also have other fun spaces such as a mini engineering lab and an open art studio where children can use any of the art materials and take home their creations at the end of the visit. Each Thursday, a hands-on, interactive science lesson is taught at the museum at 4 p.m. The Children's Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Extended hours are offered during the summer season. Don’t miss their summer outdoor movie series Movies on the Sound that plays in Nags Head, Duck and Manteo. All movies are family friendly, and admission is free! Shows run from June to August.
