Higher Grounds Coffee & Ice Cream Co. is on Colington Road and a welcome addition for the many residents back in this section of the Outer Banks. But you don't have to be a Colington resident to enjoy this place. In just a short trip down Colington Road you'll find the blue building towering 10 feet in the air (hence the name) along the sound. One of the best parts is the great big porch with the spectacular sound and marsh view; dogs are welcome on the porch. Higher Grounds offers hot and iced coffee drinks, tea and fresh-baked bagels, muffins and breads along with Hershey's scoop ice cream and soft-serve ice cream. The best seller is the Rip Tide, a vanilla milkshake with espresso. Be sure to pick up one of their delicious ice cream pies to take home. It opens early in the morning and stays open into the evening.
