βοΈπΊπΈ This morning at the Wright Brothers National Memorial, we celebrated the 121st anniversary of the first flight. Wilbur and Orville Wright made history right here in Kill Devil Hills, proving sustained flight of a heavier-than-air machine was possible.
This year's ceremony honored First Flight Shrine Inductee, General Charles McGee, a Tuskegee Airman and Air Force combat record holder. His family, including his daughter Dr. Charlene E. Smith, Ph.D., shared stories from his inspiring life.
With beautiful weather at 67Β°F, all of us in attendance explored the memorial site and got a close look inside a converted aircraft that also flew over today's ceremonyβbringing history full circle.
